Terms of Service

Last updated 24 July 2026

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern access to and use of Modfolio (the website, APIs, Discord bot, and related services — together, the "Service"). By creating an account, signing in, installing our bot, or otherwise using Modfolio, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

How we process personal data is described in our Privacy notice.

1. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use Modfolio. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you may use the Service only with a parent or legal guardian's consent where required by law.

Sign-in is Discord OAuth only. We rely on Discord's account requirements (including Discord's age rules) and do not run a separate age-assurance flow in v1. You must have the legal capacity to enter these Terms. You may not use the Service if we have previously suspended or banned your account (or an account we reasonably believe is controlled by you) for violations of these Terms.

2. Accounts and authentication

Modfolio accounts are created and signed in primarily through Discord OAuth. You are responsible for the Discord account you connect, for keeping access to it secure, and for activity that occurs under your Modfolio account.

Provide accurate information on your profile and in claims you make about your moderation experience. Do not share your session, MFA factors, or API credentials with others.

3. What Modfolio is for

Modfolio is a professional network for community moderators and the teams that hire them: profiles, verified experience, references, community pages, and recruitment listings related to moderation and community staff roles.

Do not use Modfolio for unintended purposes. Examples of misuse include (without limitation):

  • General advertising of Discord servers, products, services, or giveaways unrelated to legitimate moderation hiring or your professional profile
  • Using listings, messages, profiles, or community pages as a spam or lead-gen channel
  • Running campaigns, scams, phishing, or social-engineering schemes through the Service

Legitimate recruitment for moderation / staff roles, and truthful self-promotion of your moderation work on your own profile, are intended uses.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Harass, threaten, abuse, or spam other people or communities — including hate, sexual harassment, doxxing, or repeated unwanted contact
  • Scrape, crawl, harvest, or bulk-export Modfolio (profiles, communities, listings, search results, or other data) except through interfaces we expressly provide for your own account data (for example GDPR export). Automated access that bypasses rate limits, login walls, session handles, or anti-abuse controls is prohibited
  • Impersonate people, Discord servers/communities, brands, or Modfolio staff — including fake claim of ownership, fake "verified" status, or misleading names, avatars, or bios
  • Interfere with or disrupt the Service (malware, overload attacks, exploiting bugs for advantage, reverse engineering except where mandatory law allows)
  • Circumvent suspensions, bans, view quotas, CAPTCHAs, or other safety controls
  • Post illegal content, or content that infringes others' rights (including IP and privacy)
  • Use the Service to violate Discord's or other platforms' terms in a way that creates risk for Modfolio or other users
  • Access the Service via undocumented automation or a public API — Modfolio does not offer a public API; any bot, scraper, or integrator needs our prior written permission (see Automation and APIs)

5. Trust and integrity

Modfolio's value depends on honest signals. You agree not to manipulate trust features, including:

  • Buying, selling, farming, botting, or automating endorsements, recommendations, references, applications, votes, or similar social proof
  • Coordinating fake or reciprocal references solely to inflate credibility
  • Misrepresenting roles, tenure, server size, permissions, or verification status
  • Submitting false community claims, or claiming a server you do not control
  • Fabricating applications, screening answers, or recruiter communications

We may remove manipulated signals, reverse fraudulent verification, and restrict or ban accounts involved.

6. Your content

You retain ownership of content you submit (profile text, media you upload, listings, ticket messages, and similar "User Content"). You grant Modfolio a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, display, reproduce, and distribute that content solely to operate, secure, improve, and promote the Service (including showing public profile and community pages you choose to make visible).

You represent that you have the rights needed to submit User Content and that it does not violate these Terms or applicable law. We may remove or restrict content that violates these Terms or creates safety, legal, or operational risk.

7. Copyright and IP notices

If you believe content on Modfolio infringes your copyright or other intellectual property rights, send a notice through our Support form (works while logged out). Choose type Copyright / IP notice, include your contact email, a description of the work, the Modfolio URL(s) where the material appears, and a good-faith statement that you are authorized to act. We may remove or restrict material and ask for more information.

This channel is for intellectual-property notices. Report harassment or other abuse with type Abuse on the same form, or use in-product report tools where available.

8. Communities and the Discord bot

If you claim a community or install the Modfolio Discord bot, you represent that you are authorized to do so for that Discord server and to grant the permissions the bot requests. You are responsible for configuring roles and team access on Modfolio.

Verification badges and experience states reflect Modfolio's checks at a point in time. They are not a guarantee of someone's character, ongoing employment, or Discord status. Always do your own diligence before hiring or granting access.

Modfolio is not an employer, staffing agency, or party to any hire. Communities and applicants make their own decisions. Listings and profiles are information tools only.

9. Automation and APIs

Modfolio does not offer a public API for third-party apps, recruiters, or data brokers. You may use the normal website interface and the Discord bot we provide. Any other automated access (scripts, bulk collectors, headless browsers, or unofficial clients) requires our prior written permission. GDPR export and other self-serve tools we expose for your own data remain allowed.

11. Enforcement

We may investigate suspected violations and take action we consider appropriate, including warnings, content removal, rate limiting, suspension, permanent ban, revocation of verification, and reporting to Discord or law enforcement when warranted.

You can report abuse through in-product report flows or Support. We are not obligated to take any particular action on every report, but we take trust and safety seriously.

12. Disclaimers and liability

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE." TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, MODFOLIO DISCLAIMS WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that verification signals are complete or current.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Modfolio and its operators will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data, or goodwill, arising from your use of the Service. Our aggregate liability for claims relating to the Service is limited to the greater of (a) amounts you paid us for the Service in the 12 months before the claim or (b) EUR 50, except where liability cannot be limited by law (including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or fraud).

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations; in those places, our liability is limited to the fullest extent permitted.

13. Termination

You may stop using Modfolio at any time and may request account erasure through Settings → Your data, subject to legal retention needs (for example ban records and safety logs).

We may suspend or terminate access immediately for violations of these Terms, risk to other users, or if we discontinue the Service. Provisions that by nature should survive (including acceptable use, licenses already exercised, disclaimers, and liability limits) will survive termination.

14. Changes

We may update these Terms as Modfolio evolves. We will change the "Last updated" date above and, for material changes, provide additional notice (for example in-product or by email) when practical. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms, except where mandatory law requires a different process.
